Khao San Road Network

The Khao San Road Network!

Planning to go back to Bangkok in December and stay in the Ko Ratanikasin/Banglamphu area. I'll be there for 29 nights, and am considering a number of accommodations and am wondering what experiences anyone has had to comment or not commend any particular place. I stayed at Bhimann Inn the last time and loved their staff but given the decrease in the dollar against the baht am considering less expensive options (not that they are expensive). In particular, am considering (and am still considering Bhimann Inn):
Nakorn Pink (off Samsen Rd. - their web site is gone so don't know what is happening there)
Lamphu House
Mango Lagoon
Erawan House
Nana Plaza Inn
Top Inn
Center Point Plaza
My only requirement is private bath and air is preferrred...

Any experiences?

Also anyone had any experiences with getting tattoos in the area. I want to try to get a tattoo of Kwan Yin on my back and maybe St. Bridget and St. Alban as well....

And if anyone is going to be there in December would be glad to have a bottle of Chang beer together...

Hi - you can find some information on some of those places on our main site www.khaosanroad.com and www.khaosanroad.com/directory. It would be great if you could share with us what you find out about the other places.

Yes, I used the Khaosan Road page's resources the last time I visited Bangkok and still go back there frequently just for news and information. The Khaosan Road website and the Lonely Planet guide have been indispensable resources for me. I went ahead and wrote a review of Bhimann Innn on the Khaosan Road website and will share what info I find if any on the others. Also will report on my experience where I stay while there.

Just wanted tyo share with folks that I finally decided on a hotel, based on price and having 24-hour reception - opted for Amarin Inn. Still don't know quite where it is but is apparently down an alley (trok?) off Phra Sumen. Stayed at Bhimann Inn last year and am guessing it is across the road between the 7-11 and the corner. Will write a post about my stay for the Khaosan Road website when I get back, since that is the site wehere I found it. The rates are very reasonable. I would have stayed at Bhimann but the rate was almost twice what Amarin quoted me for 29 nights That amounts to enough for some day trips or multi-day trips outside Bangkok, plus I still am thinking of getting a tattoo or tattoos while there and they will cost a bit anyway. Difference in cost was almost $500 in cost. That said I liked the people at Bhimann Inn, but money has to stretch especially since this will probably be my last visit for another couple of years... when I at last hopefully will be able to retire....

PS, if anyone can give me some ideal of a landmark that will set Trok Surau Chakrapong off from everything else there it would be appreciated. I love Thailand...

Hi , this is my first post... I just back from bbk... i also stay amarin inn , ..., the inn is just a road (as you thought , the inn located at the alley) across opposite Bhimann Inn.. look out the green signboard (Amarin Inn)..

Taxi drivers tend cannot read the amarin inn's address, even cannot find the road..as you stay Bhimann Inn before..just say Bhimann Inn's address instead amarin 's address.. then u just cross the road will do..

The rooms didn't have sound-proof..you can hear or even hear tv sound or echo at counter... i suggest you take the room at corner..not the rooms have windows at corridors, a lot of neighbourhoods's sound.. the corridor's lights can shine inside the rooms..

Since i chose the standard room, so expect there is a cable tv, decent bed and small bathroom..by the way the staff is quite friendly..

Wow, thanks so much for this info...

LOL, I think I had the wrong place pinpointed on Google Earth as I was thinking it was a bit closer to the intersection with Samsen Rd... I think this will be a big help to me in finding it. As long as the driver can get me there, I am at least a bit familiar from my stay last year at Bhimann Inn.

The info on the rooms and the staff wonderful to know. I know that the folks at Bhimann Inn were great. And I don't have many creature-comfort requirements so they sound adequate for me, mainly a place to lay down and sleep and to get out of the heat some during the day.

Again, thank you so much....

I am hoping to get a rather large tattoo on my back depicting various forms of Avolekitesvara (i.e., Kwan Yin, Tara,....). Not sure if I can afford the tattoo I want, but am hopeful... I am also hoping to get one of the Buddha sheltered by the heads of a naga and some other smaller ones... I think I remember seeing the McD's on Khaosan Rd so will check out the artist there... First thing the firs day is to see if the sim in the phone stil I used last year still works - doubtful but possibly - and buy some credits for it if it does... Head to Roti Mataba and then to Khaosan Road to check out the tattoo shops.

I am counting the days now till I'm back in Thailand... Unfortunately this trip will have to do me for a while. I don't see being able to do this again for maybe a couple of years.... :((

Thanks for the info, I will check them out.
