I hope to return to Thailand and possibly Indochina early in 2008. This will be my escape from the cold, Canadian winter weather. I have been to Thailand twice in the last two years and love the country, the culture and the people. I have spent a number of days and nights visiting Khao San Road and found it very interesting, especially at night. If you stand still long enough the world passes you by!
Are looking for someone to travel with?
No
Tell us about yourself... interests, wants, needs, etc.
I'm a retired teacher/principal and have only recently started to travel. I have visited Bangkok twice as a volunteer teacher at St. Gabriel's College, a private boys' school. I immedialtely fell in love with the country, its culture and its people. Visiting Kho San Road was always a pleasant experience and it was always like watching the world go by. I even sport a koi tattoo that I had done there as a reminder of my times in Thailand.
What brought you to Thailand?
I had the opportunity to teach at a private school in Bangkok and jumped at the chance. This proved to be a wonderful experience for me.

It really was a great experience and I probably would do it all over again. How many times do you get to do something like this anyway? You only live once!
Wow! Now that had to be a neat experience... Not sure I have the courage to do it myself though... I suspect the waiver about being eaten would scare me off but then.....
While in Thailand I had the opportunity to visit the Tiger Temple, a place where monks look after these tigers along with the help of some volunteer workers. they make you sign a waiver that says they are not responsible if you are "maimed or eaten." The tigers are only on display at certain times of the day and I expect it is after they have been well fed. You must be very quiet and only move with the aid of a worker wearing a brightly coloured Tshirt. You must not let go off his/her arm as you are lead around the compound and the worker sets you up with the tigers, leaves you there then moves off to take your picture with your own camera then comes back for you, The tigers are not tame but somewhat docile. They are incredible animals and one is humbled in their presence. It was a wonderful experience but looking back on it I am not sure how safe it really was. We heard stories of tourists being hurt and killed and the temple being closed. I am still glad to have had the experience though. It is one of those "top 10 things to do before you die" kind of things!
This picture was taken at the Tiger Temple and looking back on the experience I am not sure just how safe it was but it sure was exciting and one that I am happy to have had!
